Countdown to Homecoming

Mood: Blissed out!

Eric is coming home this upcoming Monday or Tuesday. They are not sure when. He is supposed to have an eye exam to check the status of his eyes on Tuesday. I am not sure if we can make that an outpatient exam or not. They haven't checked his eyes in two weeks, so we would like to know the current status of them.

We have his transport oxygen set up and Monday we will be getting Eric's home oxygen. Hopefully, today we can do the rooming in. There's been a bit of confusion as a couple had to make an emergency trip to UMC from another city. Since the Ronald McDonald house didn't have any openings and all the hotels are booked for back to college, the hospital gave them the room last night. It jostled the room's schedule and they are trying to get back on track. We should know later on today if we can room-in. If not, there is always tomorrow.

Explanation of rooming-in: Rooming-in is a little room with a bathroom where the parents and their baby stay to get to know each other. The room is located right next to the NICU. It is if the parents were to go home with their infant, but with all of the convenience of having the hospital's med staff literally right next door. The staff's stance at that point is to be completely hands off and let the parents take care of all of the cares and medical equipment. It is a nice way to gently ease the parents into their new role.

On a bonus note: Eric will no longer be putting breastmilk in his breakfast cereal at the age of five. I am now qualified to donate to a milk bank. That should clear up the second freezer that we borrowed from Paul and Joanne. In that freezer, we have six boxes that hold 139-2 ounce bottles. That would be about 12 gallons of milk for the math challenged. Unfortunately, I don't get paid for it (though Cris says we should take it down to Mexico to sell it), but I did get a really nice Medela Pump In Style Advanced milk pump to keep for free.

Edited to Add: Cris said I should post a picture of the freezer before we boxed the milk into the borrowed freezer:
