Birth Age vs. Corrected Age

Here is a comparison photo of Eric with his giraffe and puppy. He was 4 weeks old, or 28 weeks gestational age, in this photo. The giraffe was bigger than he was! (Oh, and Cris? The giraffe is still his favorite, ;-P ).

There seems to be some confusion about Eric's real age. There is his birth age, 7 months, and his real age or corrected age, 3 1/2 months. Since he was a preemie, his age is adjusted after his gestational age, the normal 40 weeks of pregnancy.
Even though technically he is 7 months, it would be unfair to compare him to a full-term baby of the same age. Full-term babies come out ready for the world, while Eric had 16 weeks of cooking left to go. Hence, the corrected age.
Since his hospital release date was only 3 days from his due date, that is how we determine how old he is. In a way, he has two birthdays, his Out-of-the-Womb Day and his Done-Cooking Day. I hope that clears up any misunderstandings.
